MAKING A PROPER WILL
You can leave a living legacy by remembering the Butterfield children in your Will. By
wording your will properly, you can handle your wishes to remember family members and
the children at BYS.
Some wills don't work well. It happens most often with homemade wills, but can also
happen with wills drawn up with the help of attorneys. Sometimes the will simply becomes
obsolete, or there were major family changes that the will does not reflect.
To plan a workable will follow these steps:
A. List your property (including life insurance, real estate, securities, works of art,
--everything). Then list the people you want to provide for, along with their ages,
addresses and relationships to you.
B. Next summarize your wishes for your heirs and property. Then take these notes to
your attorney and ask him or her to put your wishes in legal form.
The following are examples of how you can help Butterfield in you Will.
Types of Bequest forms:
"I give, devise and bequeath to Butterfield Youth Services, Inc. of Marshall, Missouri ___________% of my estate to be used by its directors and administration, in carrying out its corporate objectives."
Or, "I give, devise and bequeath to Butterfield Youth Services, Inc. of Marshall, Missouri, the sum of $_________ to be used by its directors and administration, in carrying out its corporate objectives."
Or, "All the residue of my estate, including the real and personal property, I give, devise and bequeath to Butterfield Youth Services, Inc., Marshall, Missouri."
These are only suggested forms. Your exact forms should be prepared by your attorney.
If Butterfield Youth Services is mentioned in your will, we invite you to tell us so we might thank you in a personal way. You need not share the details, but you can simply say we are included in your estate plans.
