BYS Art Therapy and Services

Each child served at Butterfield is given opportunity to experience art-making in a fully equipped art studio. Individual instruction and guidance is provided by a full time employed artist. Mediums of art expression offered include painting, drawing, sculpting, ceramics, photography, wood working, and model crafting.

Experiences in art-making provide individuals with self-discovery with tangible feedback of personal success. The children and youth we serve benefit greatly from such affirming self expression. Jerrold Carton, MS has been the resident artist and art program director at BYS since 1973. He is a 1970 graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and an accomplished artist. At BYS, art services at BYS are offered as art classes in the daily curriculum of the BYS School, and the art studio is open for elective individual youth scheduling after-school and on weekends.
