Clinical Services at BYSAll children in care with Butterfield Youth Services are provided mental health counseling. Providers for these services carry at least a Masters degree in the field of psychology, clinical social work, licensed professional counselor, or psychiatric specialty in nursing. PsychotherapyBYS provides ongoing psychotherapy for clients and their families. Individual therapy focuses on the specific mental health needs of the child and may include educational components as well as assessment and treatment of specific mental disorders. Group therapy, utilized in most treatment settings, is designed to involve clients with similar needs in a structured process of awareness building and prescribed intervention. Family therapy focuses on the reunification of the family unit, offering parent skill training, conflict management and interventions targeting specific child and/or family disorders. Children requiring medications (such as antidepressants for depressive disorders) are evaluated by their response to the medication and their overall level of progress in the treatment program. They learn to master fine arts skills that range from basic model building and easy craft projects to more involved activities such as wheel-thrown pottery, drawing, painting, black and white photography, and woodworking projects. View the current galleries of Kids Art at BYS. Recreational Therapy takes many forms, from individualized sports such as tennis and golf, to more competitive group sports like basketball and soccer. Children are encouraged to maximize their leisure time in cooperative play as well as through developing and refining essential leisure skills. |
