Case Management Services at BYS

In addition to routine daily care and treatment, each child is assigned a qualified Case Manager for the purpose of identifying and acquiring those resources needed to help ensure a successful period of treatment within the community as well as a stabilized return to the family of origin.

Identification and Acquisition of Community Resources

A child's stable return to the family of origin may, in part, depend on whether or not all members of the family are receiving necessary services. The Case Manager works to secure these services through networking with organizations and resources in the family's local community. A typical list of community resources and their functions includes:

  • Job service agencies for locating and securing needed employment.
  • Social service agencies to ensure that a family is receiving all medical and general living services for which they are eligible.
  • Community counseling services for the provision of ongoing individual and/or family therapies for members of the family both during and after the child's course of treatment with BYS.
  • Local schools to ensure that, while in treatment and after discharge, a child receives special education or other needed services.

Cooperative Work...

Case Managers work cooperatively with referral agencies, courts, and other participating support agencies.

Children are placed with BYS through referral from the Missouri Division of Family Services (DFS) and the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH). The Case Manager works as a liaison with these and other agencies to help ensure that a child's individual needs are being met.

Addressing Developmental Needs

Case Management links the child with community resources that will facilitate the development of each child's emotional and social skills.

Examples of development skills include:
  • Job search skills
  • Job retention skills
  • Obtaining a drivers license
  • Identifying and utilizing community resources
  • Public presentation of self
