Birds of Prey Presentation at BYS School

On October 9th, BYS School hosted a very special program presentation by the Raptor Rehabilitation Project of the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine. The children learned much about birds of prey, called raptors, and about their important contributions to the balance of nature.

All of the birds in this presentation had been victims of serious injury, and all were rescued and nursed back to health by the Raptor Rehabilitation Project. These individual birds are permanent residents of the project, because their injuries left them disabled, and unable to fend for themselves in the wild. Otherwise, all of the rescued birds are carefully returned to nature when they have recovered.

In addition to learning about raptors, the BYS students learned much about themselves and about our own responsibility to respect wildlife and to preserve an environment in which we all can live.

In the associated picture, University of Missoury veterinary student Tamara, presented a beautiful Great Horned Owl.
